Parliament
The highest authority in the UK which makes laws. It is made up of the Sovereign (the Queen), the House of Lords and the House of Commons.

Penalty points
Part of the punishment for motoring offences which stay as a record on a driving licence for between 4 and 11 years, depending on the offence.

Police caution
The words a police officer must use before making an arrest or starting an interview.

Police community support officer (PCSO)
PCSOs patrol the streets and interact with the public, providing a reassuring presence and helping to tackle anti-social behaviour. They also offer assistance to police officers at crime scenes and major events.

Pre-sentence report
This is asked for by the judge or magistrates, to help them decide on the most suitable way of dealing with anyone convicted of an offence.
