Magistrate(s)
An ordinary person who has been specially trained to hear criminal and civil cases. They are also called Justices of the Peace and can give out penalties like fines, community penalties and prison sentences of up to 6 months (or 24 months for people under 18).

Magistrates’ court
A court that deals with both civil and criminal cases.

Mediator
Someone who works with people who are in a dispute to work out an agreement.

Motive
The reason for doing something, for example, love, anger, greed.

Mugger
Someone who attacks or threatens to hurt another person in order to steal their money or personal possessions.

Neighbourhood Policing Team
Police officers and police community support officers who work in one specific area and are available to talk to people about their crime and anti-social behaviour concerns. Every neighbourhood in England and Wales has their own team.
