Even back in 1850, when my hero William Jacob first made his biscuits in Waterford, Ireland, we knew baked was the way forward. Great ingredients, baked to perfection. What could be simpler? And these days I bake all our snacks just the same way. With an extra huge helping of love, of course.
The man, the myth, the legendary baker (no, not me, William Jacob) starts baking up a storm in Southern Ireland. Everyone raise a Cream Cracker to him and his oven.
A star is born. Well, more of a square. Our Cream Crackers hit Dublin for the first time. People think they’re simply, ahem, cracking. Sorry, couldn’t resist.
A short hop across the water and we started our famous bakery in Aintree, which is where you’ll find little old me and where I learned the art of baking the tasty, light and airy snacks you know and love.
Christmas. That’s my bread and, sorry crackers and, butter. With cheese, leftovers or without, Jacob’s becomes as much a part of Christmas as Turkey and sprouts. Only everyone likes them.
Twiglets are conceived, baked and let loose on the world. The snacking world is forever divided (I think you can guess which camp I’m in). We baked them so half of you can snack happy.
We become W & R Jacob’s & Co, quite a mouthful but then we are a cracker company. We then join with Associated Biscuit Manufacturers (equally snappy title) and make beautiful baked music together. Using rolling pins and oven timer dings.
New name (we become Associated Biscuits Ltd). Same glorious baking though.
We bake Mini Cheddars for the first time, you lucky peeps. Perfect circles of crunchy cheesiness. And real cheese at that.
Hang on, what were we thinking? Let’s change the name back. Now we’re The Jacob’s Bakery Ltd. Again. Phew.
We join the United Biscuits family. Big hugs all round. New ideas. New recipes. Lots of hard work for me and the other bakers.
Oddities appear. These quirky baked snacks, bring out my inner duck, rocket and camera. Perfect for lunchboxes, they kick off in glorious Cheese and Bacon flavours.
Fed up with rock hard crispbreads I bake a delicious alternative. Say hello to my new crunchycrumbly Crispbreads. And say hello to me – Jacob. Skidding onto the scene in my little baker’s van as the new face of Jacob’s. Calling all snackers, prepare to Snack Happy.
