- Discuss the interrelationship between laws.
- Explore different kinds of rights and obligations and how these affect both individuals and communities.

- Explore the role of law in maintaining order and resolving conflict.
- Consider how to make the system fair and supportive.
- Investigate opportunities for conflict resolution versus courts.
- Understand the need for family, civil and criminal processes.

Unit 3: In court |
- Understand the processes in a court case and the roles of those involved.
- Understand that justice is fundamental to a democratic society.
- Investigate the different types of courts and tribunals.
- Consider how fair and informed decisions are made.

Unit 4: What's in a sentence? |
- Consider the purposes of sentencing criminals: from punishment through to protection of the public.
- Understand the implications of different routes and innovative approaches to punishment - e.g. meet the victim.
- To gain insights into the realities of prison, community order, young offender institutions, etc. To weigh up what is fair and unfair in different situations.
