View activity This activity looks at the numerous ways in which the law affects our everyday lives. Students look at pictures and their descriptions, and choose a law that matches best.Discussion Ask the students to work in pairs to suggest and debate a new law which would affect all young people. This could be a law about any part of a young person's life e.g. money, friends, music, sport, education and training etc. They must be able to justify their law with valid reasons. Hold a class vote at the end to choose which of the groups' laws is the most popular.

 Role play:
Working with a talk partner, the students could take turns to argue the case for and against the introduction of a new law that would make it compulsory for all young people to stay in education until the age of 18.

 Extension activities
How many laws which affect their lives now can the students think of and list? This could include under-age drinking, under-age smoking, wearing a seatbelt or crash helmet etc. Ask the students to consider which laws will affect them when they leave school e.g. employment law, and consumer rights.
