This activity invites the students to identify fact from opinion in the evidence for PC Lawler's report.

Discussion
Talk about the difference between fact and opinion. Ask the students to come up with suggestions for facts and opinions about their day so far. Examples might include: I was late for the bus (fact); the History lesson was boring (opinion); lunch is at 12.30 (fact); the soup was disgusting (opinion).

Extension activities
Challenge the students to create a 'Fact or opinion' quiz for another member of the group to answer. The questions could be based on anything relevant to the students, e.g. the school day or last night's episode of Eastenders. The person who answers the quiz needs to decide which statements are fact and which are opinion.
