View activity In this activity, the students fill in information about Ryan in the report belonging to his Youth Offending Team representative. DiscussionTalk about Ryan's case. What are the students' opinions of him? What do they think he needs help with to stay away from a life of crime? Is Ryan like anyone they know? The students should not name names, but talk in general terms.
Role playExtension activitiesWorking as a small group of between four and six, students try to imagine they are a group of teenagers who are at serious risk of offending and social exclusion and have been persuaded to take part in a workshop to try to turn their behaviour around. One of the students takes the role of a reformed Ryan - who is there to tell his story and offer support and advice to the teenagers. How might this scene be played out?
Invite the students to devise an advice sheet for Ryan, with a list of ideas that would help him with his rehabilitation. This might include keeping in regular contact with his Youth Offending Team, staying away from drugs, joining a sports club, making new friends, or calling an advice helpline if he's worried he's going to re-offend.
