Sensitive issues
Inevitably with this subject, some of your students may have personal experience of issues that are explored. This might be the effects of divorce and separation or perhaps family members have been victims of crime or been in trouble with the law. You will probably know who in your class this may affect, but be prepared for any disclosures.

It is especially important that these students are not excluded from the activities. They will need to know that there is someone in school whom they can spend time with and that they will have a chance to talk and be listened to.

If you're worried about a student, speak to a member of your senior management team and voice your concern. You may decide that this is an appropriate time to trigger your schools Child Protection Policy.

Look also at the relevant section of the Useful links and resources as there is much in there to help.

Did you know?
Look out for the 'Did you know?' pop-up boxes that are scattered through the 11-16s section. These include interesting facts on a series of related topics. Suggestions are given in the notes for the unit on how you could use each one.

Teacher support in other sections
Don't forget that there is comprehensive Background information on all aspects of the legal and justice system as well as the Useful links and resources. For your students there is an extensive Glossary of unfamiliar terms.

Information for parents and carers
There is a brief section for parents and carers that gives information about the aims and content of the site. If required, you can print this out to send home with your students.
