        | Unit 2: Making the law work |

          To understand why and how rules and laws are made and enforced -   both in school and in the wider community. To empathise with different points of view and discuss what is meant   by 'fairness'. To learn about the different ways that disputes can be resolved - by   looking at alternatives, making decisions and explaining choices. To think about social and moral dilemmas that they come across in   life. |

          To become familiar with what happens in a law court. To know that different types of cases are dealt with in different courts. To think about the roles and responsibilities of everyone involved. To understand the importance of fairness and informed decision-  making.  |

          To know what happens at a police station when a crime is reported,   and to understand the role of the police in the justice system. To understand that there are different consequences when laws are   broken, depending on the crime. To think about how actions affect different members of the   community. To think about the characteristics of racism, bullying and aggressive   behaviours, and how to respond to them and get help.  |
