Unit 1: What are laws for? |
- To learn that rules are created from an understanding about what is right and wrong.
- To think about why different rules are needed in different situations.
- To voice opinions and explain points of view about why schools have rules and to know they are based on ideas and beliefs that have been thought through.
- To think about the value of rules and laws.

Unit 2: Making the law work |
- To understand why and how rules and laws are made and enforced - both in school and in the wider community.
- To empathise with different points of view and discuss what is meant by 'fairness'.
- To learn about the different ways that disputes can be resolved - by looking at alternatives, making decisions and explaining choices.
- To think about social and moral dilemmas that they come across in life.

Unit 3: In court |
- To become familiar with what happens in a law court.
- To know that different types of cases are dealt with in different courts.
- To think about the roles and responsibilities of everyone involved.
- To understand the importance of fairness and informed decision- making.

Unit 4: What's in a sentence? |
- To know what happens at a police station when a crime is reported, and to understand the role of the police in the justice system.
- To understand that there are different consequences when laws are broken, depending on the crime.
- To think about how actions affect different members of the community.
- To think about the characteristics of racism, bullying and aggressive behaviours, and how to respond to them and get help.
