Activity: In the Crown Court
PSHE & Citizenship 2a. 2f. 4e.
View activity
The children click on various areas of the Crown Court to find out who's who and the roles they perform.
Discussion
What do the children already know about a Crown Court? They may have seen scenes on TV and in films. What are their initial reactions to the scene? Can they remember which types of cases are heard in the Crown Court? Which people working in the court have legal training? Why is this important?
Extension activities
Ask the children to choose three 'new' words and to use the glossary to write a definition for each of them. Write the first paragraphs of the press reporter's account of the opening proceedings in court. He or she describes who is there and the accusation against the defendant. Encourage the children to use the correct legal terms. |
