Activity: At the police station

PSHE & Citizenship 1a. 1e. 2f.

View activity

The character Sam, who was in trouble in Unit 2 for breaking a window and running off, is now cast in the role of witness to a mugging in the park. Sam is nervous about what to expect if he reports the incident at a police station. The activity familiarises the children with what might happen if he decides to go to the station.

Discussion
Talk about each picture.
How can you identify a 'reception area' and what is its purpose?
Why is it important to talk in a private area?
What is a custody area?
What other kinds of rooms might be needed in a police station?

Extension activity
Ask the children to draw an outline plan of a police station based on the information from this activity. They can label each area and describe their purposes.
