PSHE & Citizenship 2a. 2f.

View activity

Discussion
Can the children find any examples of opinion?
Who would speak first in court?
Why are there lawyers for both the defence and the prosecution?
Why do they both ask questions?

Role play
Set up a courtroom scene. If possible, rearrange the furniture and give the children different roles. They can make up a label and place it on the desk to show who they are and what their role is. Carry on with the conversations from the on-screen activity and role-play more of the evidence and questioning.

Extension activities
Play the scene again, but ask the children to take on a different role. Ask them to evaluate the experience. What did they find easy or difficult to do? What qualities did they need to play each role successfully? Does anybody have a really difficult job in court? Who needs the most legal knowledge?
