        | Activity: Consider the evidence PSHE & Citizenship 2a. View activity This gives more information about the case through the characters of the lawyer for the prosecution, the defendant and PC Lawler.Discussion Talk about the difference between fact and opinion. Can the children find examples of both in the three statements? Which accounts stick to the facts? What would be left in Darren's statement if the opinion was removed? Ask the children to complete the activity in which they try to find three reasons that point to his innocence and three reasons that point to his guilt.

 Extension activities
Ask children to think about why is it important to keep to the facts. Have they included only facts, or given both facts and opinions in their summary of reasons about Darren's guilt or innocence?

 Role play
Ask the children to work in a group of three and to role play an 'incident'. This could be an argument in the classroom, or someone taking something without asking. Can the third person in the group give a completely factual account about what happened and then a second account in which they include opinion? Which is the most helpful when trying to decide on the evidence?
