        | Activity: FirePSHE & Citizenship 2c. View activity There has been a fire at the school resulting in the serious injury of two children. A reporter from the local newspaper is asking questions. The children answer the reporter's questions from the point of view of the head teacher, the investigating police officer, a pupil at the school and the injured child's brother.Discussion Briefly ask the children to make suggestions about how different people might react. What will be the major concern for each of the characters? Do the children think these people's reactions would be different depending on if the incident was a deliberate act of arson or an accidental fire?

 Role play
Ask the children to role play the scenes between the reporter and the other characters. Encourage them to develop their thinking by using open ended and supplementary questions, for example, 'That's an interesting point, can you tell me more about that?' At the end of the role plays, ask the children to share any additional insights they have discovered about the characters.

 Extension activities
How would the children feel if there were an act of vandalism to their school or to the area where they live? Why do they think people commit acts of vandalism? What ideas do they have to stop it from happening? Ask them to prepare a short role play in which a young person who could get caught up in an act of vandalism is persuaded to act differently.
