The verdict on Darren Burley is revealed.
Discussion
Were they surprised by the verdict? Do they think it is fair? Why doesn't the judge pass sentence immediately? Each group will decide on what they think is the most appropriate sentence. There is more about sentencing in Unit 4, but ask the children to report back and summarise the reasons from their group. You may want to re-visit this activity after completing Unit 4 to see if any of the groups change their mind.
Extension activity
Ask the children to find out more about the role of either the Youth Offending Team or the Crown Prosecution Service. They can start their investigation by reading the information in the 'Did you know?' sections.
