PSHE & Citizenship 2e. 4e.

SEAL
I can say and do things that are likely to make a difficult situation better.

This activity introduces the children to how the mediation process might work in a family case. Sandy's mum and dad are divorced and go to mediation to settle on how often Sandy should see her dad.

Discussion
Why might it be a good idea that cases like this are settled out of court? It is clear that both Sandy's mum and dad have her interests at heart. How is this going to help the mediation process?

Extension activity
Write a few pointers for Sandy's mum and dad. How should they behave in mediation if it is to go well? For example, agreeing to listen, not to interrupt, and not to lose their temper or use abusive language.
