Being a witness
  • Ask the children to work in small groups and to devise short role plays on conflict situations that might occur in school. Watch the scenarios and invite children to speak as witnesses on the events. How easy is it to remember? What makes a good witness?
Judges Sentencing
  • Challenge the children to find a real life example of a sentence that has been passed. Can they think of any factors that a judge might take into account before passing sentence?
Juries
  • Ask for a group of 12 volunteers to form a jury. Their first job is to elect a foreman or forewoman. How are they going to do this? Give them five minutes to make a decision, then talk about the experience. How easy or difficult is it to come to an agreement in a group of 12?
